Marian del Moral Garrido isa Spanish social anthropologist, researcher and professor affiliatedwith the University of Granada, where she works in the Department ofSocial Anthropology and the University Institute for Women’s andGender Studies.She earnedher PhD in Social Anthropology in 2016 and has since specialized invisual anthropology, African media studies and the analysis of filmproduction from feminist and decolonial perspectives. Her area ofinterest can be described as the exploration of the intersectionsbetween cinema, culture, gender, and social representation.
Over the years she has examined how images and audiovisual narratives shape the construction of identities, particularly in the case of women and historically marginalized communities. Her research in African media, migration and female self representation has positioned her as a significant voice within contemporary visual anthropology.
In addition to her work in academia, Marian del Moral has developed an extensive career in the film and audiovisual field. She has participated in production, screenwriting, documentation and visual anthropology projects in countries such as Nepal, Morocco, South Africa and Japan. Among her many collaborations, of special note is her work with Spanish filmmaker Icíar Bollaín, one of her principal professional influences; together they worked on casting and production processes for the feature film Kathmand uLullaby.
